Our People

The people behind VIP Protection Services

The quality of a close protection service depends entirely on the people delivering it. This page explains how we select, vet and deploy our officers — and the standards we apply to every assignment.

We do not publish individual officer profiles. This is a deliberate decision: the identities of our personnel are kept confidential for operational and security reasons. What we can explain is the standard every officer must meet before they are deployed on your behalf.

Why we don't publish officer profiles

Publishing the names, photographs and backgrounds of close protection officers creates an identifiable record that can be used to compromise their effectiveness. A principal's security is partly dependent on their protection team not being easily identified in advance.

For the same reason, we do not discuss which officers have worked with which clients. The confidentiality we extend to our clients applies equally to our personnel.

How we select our officers

Officers are selected according to the requirements of the assignment rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. The following criteria apply to every officer we deploy.

SIA Close Protection licence

Every officer deployed by VIP Protection Services holds a valid SIA Close Protection licence — the legal requirement for providing close protection services commercially in the UK. We verify licence validity before deployment and maintain records of renewal dates.

BS 7858 screening

All officers are screened to the BS 7858 standard, which covers a five-year employment history check, identity verification, address history, financial probity and criminal record checks. This is the recognised industry standard for vetting individuals working in security-related environments.

Relevant operational experience

We select officers whose experience is relevant to the specific assignment. An officer with extensive experience in corporate close protection may not be the right choice for a private family assignment, and vice versa. We match officers to assignments based on their background, not simply their availability.

Professional presentation and discretion

For most of our clients, the ability to operate discreetly is as important as any physical capability. We select officers who are professionally presented, socially aware and capable of adapting to environments ranging from corporate boardrooms to private social events.

Communication and interpersonal skills

Effective close protection requires clear, professional communication — with the client, with the client's team and with third parties such as venue security, drivers and event organisers. We look for officers who communicate well under pressure and who understand the importance of maintaining the client's confidence.

Language and cultural awareness

For assignments involving international travel or clients from specific cultural backgrounds, we consider language capability and cultural awareness as part of the selection process. Where specific language skills are required, we will advise on availability.

Operational standards

Beyond individual officer selection, every assignment is managed to the following operational standards.

Written risk assessment before every deployment
Detailed briefing for all deployed officers
Advance work completed before the principal arrives where appropriate
Designated team leader or duty manager for multi-officer assignments
Incident and activity records maintained throughout the assignment
Post-assignment debrief and reporting available on request
NDA signed before any sensitive operational detail is exchanged
